How much to knock wall down by staircase?

My staircase has one of those railings that are attached to the wall and the wall when in the living room is huge and seems pointless to be there. I'd like to have half of the wall removed and add wrought iron balusters and have about 5-6 steps exposed while in the living room. Would this be costly to do since it doesn't originally have balusters at all right now? How much am i looking at here (labor/ materials)?
