Something is definitely wrong with my laptop?

the best option is to reinstall your Operating System (OS). If you are lucky it should have came with a DVD of your OS. If it is located in a hidden partition then you can access that by turn on/restarting. Then on the boot screen (in the very beginning) press F8, if its not that keep an eye out for the proper key it is usually in one of the corners of that screen. (WARNING: you have to be quick because that screen disappears quickly. If you miss the screen hold CTRL+ALT+DELETE.) then follow the process.
